Organ transplantation procedures on 2 patients:

Dr. Sampath said the hospital had created a record by performing successful liver transplantation surgeries on two patients within a week. Smitha (24) of Bengaluru is one of the two patients who successfully underwent liver transplants. Ms. Sumitha had been suffering from a liver ailment for several years and finally got relief through the transplantation procedure here. She received a liver from her mother Rajathi, and both are recuperating and well on the path to recovery after the surgery.

Raveendran (63) is the other patient to have undergone a liver transplant. Belonging to Sathuvachary of Vellore, he received liver from his wife Santhi, and both are recovering well post-surgery. Several people have registered at Naruvi Hospitals seeking organ transplant procedures.

Patients are healthy:

The patients who had received the organs, their donors, and the medical team headed by Dr. Sanjay Govil, a world-renowned liver transplant surgeon, were introduced in the media interaction. Dr. Govil said that the patients and their donors were healthy. The surgeries lasted about 7 to 8 hours, he said, adding that government regulations had stipulated that only blood relatives could donate their organs to people needing them and that no one else could come forward for the same. Dr. Govil added that alcohol intake, consumption of food cooked in unhygienic surroundings, drinking contaminated water, consuming high-cholesterol food, and a sedentary lifestyle without physical activity and exercise were some of the causes of liver ailments.

National accreditation:

It is a matter of immense pride that the healthcare institution has received NABH accreditation. Further, Dr. Sampath added that Naruvi Hospitals has also received the CAHO (Consortium of Accredited Health Care Organisations) accreditation for Infection Protection.
